Messages from Fr.Provincial

THE MISSION CONTINUES…

If the Order of Preachers was born under the mantle of the Virgin, as history attests, this is particularly true of the Province of OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY, whichfrom its  very beginning was placed under her protection.

Founded for the evangelization of “the Kingdoms of the East,” the first Dominican missionaries arrived in the Philippines in 1587 and soon afterwards succeeded in making     their dream come true as their ministry began not only in the Philippines, but also in Japan (1602), in Taiwan (1626), in Mainland China (1633), in Tonkin, Indochina (1676), in Venezuela (1951), in Korea (1989), in Singapore (2001), in Myanmar (2010), and in other places in Asia: Macau, Hong Kong...

The mission continues...

“You have a glorious history that is a treasure to the Order,” wrote the former Master of the Order, Fr. Carlos Azpiroz, in his Letter to the Provincial Chapter held in HongKong in September 2009. This is true and should make us proud of it. But we cannot forget the words of John Paul II: “You not only have a glorious history to tell, but a great history to build up. Set your eyes on the future, toward which the Spirit impels you to continue doing great things” (VC, 110).

The same mission started by our predecessors is the same mission we have to look ahead to, with the challenges of the present moment. To mention just one of them: the challenge of interculturality placed before us today by the young people who, from different countries, knock at our doors. It is a challenge that, beyond the overcoming of natural linguistic barriers, imposes on us all a renewal of the mind, a genuine personal transformation.

“Come, I will make you fishers of men,” the Lord continues calling today; this time spreading His invitation through the cybernetic world… Not for that His call is less imperative.
Peter, John, Andrew… left at once their father and their nets to followed Him.

What about us? … What about you? …
